The Booker T. Washington Library and Museum was a proposal that I took the Booker T. Washington Alumni Board of Directors in 2006. There were many programs going on at the school at that time, and I was hoping for a space to preserve our history.  During that time the Booker T Washington Foundation was trying to get more interest and support for the community center.  I thought this was a good time to move forward.  The Board unanimously approved the proposal.  It was not until 2013 that space was available and the City of Staunton approved our request.  We actually were given the former school's old library, which was very appropriate.
